Description:
A fine early 19th-century French secrétaire à abattant, crafted from richly toned mahogany with understated neoclassical lines. The drop-front writing surface opens to reveal a beautifully fitted interior with a mix of open pigeonholes and small dovetailed drawers in contrasting satinwood veneers. This refined and practical arrangement once held correspondence, ledgers, and fine writing instruments—and today offers ideal storage for stationery, chargers, or keepsakes.
Four full-width drawers below provide additional utility, while the subtly veined marble top and ebonized trim add elegance and structure. Original turned knobs, working locks, and two functioning keys complete the piece. Slender fluted legs lift the profile and echo the classical architecture of its time.
Suggested Placement:
Perfect for use as a writing desk in a guest room, a bar cabinet in a living room, or an entryway statement piece with hidden storage.
Condition Report:
Excellent antique condition with minor surface wear appropriate to age. Stress fracture on the flap. Some fading to the leather blotter. One loose brass knob in the interior. Two working keys included.
