Dimensions:

Description:
A compact Late Roman terracotta juglet, dating to approximately the 3rd–4th century AD. The vessel features a gently ovoid body encircled by closely spaced horizontal ribs, rising to a narrow neck with a pinched pouring lip and a single arched handle. The surface retains a pale, mineral-rich patina with subtle tonal variation from centuries of burial and use.
Such utilitarian forms were produced throughout the Roman world for storing and pouring liquids—oil, wine, or water—combining functional clarity with a restrained, almost modern sense of proportion. The rhythmic ribbing lends both grip and visual texture, giving the piece a sculptural presence despite its modest scale.
A quietly evocative object that bridges archaeology and contemporary interiors, equally compelling as a standalone accent or grouped with other ancient ceramics.
Suggested Placement:
Ideal for styling on a bookshelf, desk, or console, or grouped with other vessels for a layered, collected vignette.
Condition Report:
Good condition with surface wear, minor losses, and pitting consistent with age and archaeological origin. Structurally stable. From a 1970s US collection.
