Description:

An elegant Louis XVI style tub chair featuring an enveloping cane back, richly carved wood frame, and a loose upholstered alpaca seat cushion. Its graceful, semicircular silhouette offers a refined interpretation of the French fauteuil de bureau tradition, balancing classical ornament with an intimate, architectural form.

The carved frame is distinguished by scrolling foliate decoration along the curved upper rail, finely detailed front supports, and a geometric and botanical motif across the bowed seat apron. The warm wood retains a richly weathered surface, with traces of pale finish settled into the carving, lending depth and character to its sculptural details.

The chair has been fully recaned, restoring the airy transparency of its original design. A tailored loose cushion upholstered in softly textured alpaca introduces a contemporary layer of comfort and quiet luxury. The interplay of carved wood, natural cane, and tactile upholstery makes this a particularly versatile accent piece.

Suggested Placement:

An inspired choice for a refined bedroom, dressing room, or intimate reading corner. Equally compelling as an occasional chair in a layered living room or beside an antique writing desk, where its sculptural silhouette can be appreciated from every angle.

Condition Report:

Very good vintage or antique condition with substantial age-appropriate wear to the wood frame, including surface abrasions, finish losses, and traces of earlier pale paint. These elements contribute to the chair's distinctive patina. Fully recaned with a newly upholstered loose alpaca cushion.
