Description:
A generously proportioned Georgian-style library chair in mahogany, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The enveloping curved back and arms frame an upholstered central splat, while slender open supports give the substantial form an unexpected lightness. Carved foliate and scroll details punctuate the frame, with shaped front legs terminating in casters that appear original to the chair.

The chair balances architectural presence with genuine comfort. Its deep seat, broad arms, and gently curved back make it particularly inviting, while the warm mahogany retains an attractive aged surface with variations in tone and patina. The black-and-cream patterned upholstery is in very good usable condition and appears to be a later treatment; while somewhat traditional in character, it could easily be updated to shift the chair toward a more contemporary interior.

Suggested Placement:
An excellent library, desk, or fireside chair, with enough scale to stand alone in a bedroom, study, dressing room, or layered living space. Its generous proportions make it particularly effective where a more sculptural occasional chair is called for.

Condition Report:
Very good antique condition with age-appropriate surface wear, marks, and patina. Evidence of earlier repairs, including to the curved upper rail, consistent with the chair’s age and continued use. Upholstery is clean and serviceable with light signs of use. Structurally sound, comfortable, and ready to place. All casters operate properly and appear original.
