Description:
An early 20th century Persian rug, handwoven in wool, distinguished by its architectural diamond medallion set against a softly abrashed field. Tones of rose, deep blue, brown, and muted ivory create a restrained yet romantic palette, beautifully mellowed by time. The contrast between the darker corner spandrels and the pale field gives the composition a grounded, graphic clarity.
The patterning is densely articulated, with repeating floral and geometric motifs that speak to classical Persian weaving traditions. Decades of wear have reduced the pile to a low, velvety surface, softening the drawing and lending the piece an atmospheric presence. The patina is honest and unembellished — a rug that reads as lived-in rather than decorative.
Suggested Placement:
Ideal for a study, library, or layered over jute in a sitting room. Its scale suits an apartment living area, beneath a small dining table, or at the foot of a bed where texture and age are welcome.
Condition Report:
Distressed antique condition with low pile throughout. Noticeable wear to the edges and a 5″ tear at one end. Structurally stable overall, with surface wear consistent with age and use. Presents beautifully and lies flat.
