A compact English oak writing desk by Castle Furniture, circa 1940s, retaining its original maker’s label inside the drawer. Designed at a lower scale, the piece features a molded rectangular top, a generous full-width drawer, a subtly shaped apron, turned front supports, and a stretcher base. Its warm oak grain and restrained Jacobean Revival vocabulary give the table a pleasing architectural presence without feeling overly formal.

The unusually versatile proportions make it particularly appealing today. Originally suited to use as a child’s writing desk, its 23.5-inch height also allows it to function beautifully as a generous bedside table, end table, or occasional table.
