Description:
A handsome set of four vintage Cesca dining chairs attributed to Marcel Breuer, executed in the iconic combination of woven cane, bentwood frames, and tubular chrome-plated steel. The chairs feature warm honey-toned wood surrounds, exceptionally well-preserved cane backs, and beige leather upholstered seats added during a later professional reupholstery.

Few twentieth-century furniture designs have achieved the enduring relevance of the Cesca. Introduced in the late 1920s, the chair's cantilevered form brought a new sense of visual lightness to modern interiors while maintaining everyday comfort and practicality. These examples retain the architectural clarity that made the design famous, balancing industrial materials with the warmth of natural cane and wood.
The later leather upholstery lends a refined, contemporary sensibility while remaining sympathetic to the original design. Equally suited to dining rooms, creative workspaces, and layered residential interiors, the chairs offer timeless versatility and a collected modern character.

Suggested Placement:

Ideal around a dining table, within a breakfast room, or as occasional seating in a study or library. The combination of cane, leather, and chrome allows these chairs to transition effortlessly between mid-century, contemporary, and traditional interiors.

Condition Report:

Very good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. Cane backs are exceptionally well preserved with no visible breaks, punctures, or repairs. Beige leather seats were professionally reupholstered and remain clean and attractive with light expected wear and minor marks. Chrome frames exhibit scattered oxidation, pitting, and finish wear consistent with age, contributing to the chairs' authentic vintage character. All chairs are structurally sound and sturdy. One chair exhibits a slight variation in backrest height (33"), likely the result of a period adjustment or production variation. The chair remains fully functional and visually cohesive within the set.
