Dimensions:
Approximately 7⅛″ Ø × 2″ H
Description:
A finely cast bronze footed tray dating to the Persian Seljuk period, circa 9th–10th century AD. Raised on three integral feet, the tray features a broad flared rim surrounding a shallow basin decorated with engraved concentric bands and stylized floral ornament. Centuries of oxidation have produced a richly varied surface with deep olive, brown, and turquoise verdigris that speaks to its remarkable age.
Originally intended as a utilitarian or ceremonial vessel, the tray today possesses the quiet authority of an archaeological object. Its restrained geometry and naturally developed patina make it equally compelling as a decorative work of ancient metalwork, whether displayed on a pedestal, shelf, or tabletop. Acquired from a London art market collection and formerly part of an Austrian collection assembled during the 1970s–80s.
Suggested Placement:
An exceptional accent for a library, study, or curated vignette. Display alone on a pedestal, coffee table, or within a cabinet of curiosities where its sculptural form and millennium-old surface can be appreciated.
Condition Report:
Good ancient condition with expected wear consistent with approximately one thousand years of age. Rich archaeological patina throughout with areas of verdigris, surface oxidation, and casting irregularities. Minor losses and an old chip to the rim, as documented, remain stable and contribute to the authenticity and character of the piece.
