Dimensions:
41.5″ H × 76″ W × 23″ D
Description:
A generously scaled 20th-century teak garden bench in the celebrated Lutyens tradition, distinguished by its high arched back, rhythmic slatted construction, sweeping serpentine crest, and scrolling arms. At 76 inches wide, the bench has substantial architectural presence while retaining the open, airy quality that makes the form particularly successful in a garden setting.
Constructed in solid teak with a long stretcher base and central supports, the bench has weathered naturally to a pale silvery-grey surface with subtle variations of warmer timber beneath. The softened finish gives the piece the settled character of an established garden element rather than a newly manufactured outdoor furnishing. Unmarked; date and origin are not documented.
Suggested Placement:
Especially suited to a formal garden, gravel terrace, covered porch, pool surround, or beneath mature trees where its sculptural silhouette can be appreciated from a distance. Equally effective in a conservatory or large garden room.
Condition Report:
Very good vintage condition with age-appropriate outdoor weathering, surface checking, stress fractures, and signs of use throughout. Structurally sturdy and ready to place. The teak retains an attractive naturally weathered patina; superficial moss visible prior to cleaning has washed away.
