Description:
A hand-painted Mexican Tlaquepaque pottery tray dating to the 1930s–1940s, decorated with a stylized white bird emerging from agave-like foliage against a rich terracotta-red slip ground. Concentric bands of green, blue, cream, and rust frame the composition, creating a lively contrast that reflects the whimsical character of early Tlaquepaque tourist wares.
Crafted in earthenware and marked “Mexico” on the underside, the tray exemplifies the playful folk-art aesthetic associated with the celebrated ceramic traditions of Tlaquepaque, Jalisco. The simplified forms, hand-drawn decoration, and warm palette lend the piece a quiet charm that feels equally at home in traditional, eclectic, or collected interiors.
Suggested Placement:
Ideal on a coffee table, bookshelf, or bedside table as a decorative catchall. Its scale and color make it particularly effective layered into collections of pottery, folk art, or Southwestern-inspired objects.
Condition Report:
Very good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. Minor surface wear, light scuffing, and small glaze losses consistent with age and use. Presents beautifully with a warm, authentic patina.
