Description:
Hand-painted Mexican folk art pottery tray from Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, dating to the 1930s–1940s. The rectangular earthenware form is decorated with a pastoral desert scene depicting a campesino figure gathering agave alongside cactus, flowering shrubs, and a small black dog, all rendered against a warm orange slip ground. A delicate geometric border frames the composition and reinforces the tray's handcrafted character.
Pieces from this period embody the charm and narrative quality that made Tlaquepaque pottery highly sought after by travelers and collectors throughout the first half of the twentieth century. The earthy palette, stylized figures, and regional iconography capture a distinctly Mexican sense of place while lending the object a quiet decorative presence.

Suggested Placement:
Ideal displayed on a bookshelf, console, or kitchen shelf where its warm color and folk imagery can provide contrast to more formal interiors. Equally appealing as a catchall for correspondence, keys, or small decorative objects.

Condition Report:
Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. Minor glaze abrasions, surface scratches, and small areas of edge wear consistent with decades of use and handling. Presents beautifully and retains strong color throughout.

This piece is located in our Saugerties showroom. Viewing and pickup are available by appointment. Eligible for complimentary shipping via FedEx or UPS to any address in the continental United States.
