Description

An evocative Flemish Baroque armchair, estimated to date from the 17th or 18th century, distinguished by its sculptural carved wood frame, architectural presence, and richly aged surfaces. The chair embodies the robust craftsmanship and expressive ornamentation associated with early Northern European furniture, its centuries of use reflected in a remarkable accumulation of patina, wear, and historic repairs.

Recently reupholstered in Castel's Baobab fabric in Ebony, a richly textured cotton-and-wool weave from the house's African Trees Collection. Inspired by the landscapes of Northern Africa, the textile's expressive, organic pattern introduces a contemporary counterpoint to the chair's historic frame. The juxtaposition of European Baroque craftsmanship and modern textile design lends the piece a distinctly collected sensibility.

Despite its considerable age and historic character, the chair is exceptionally sturdy and comfortable, offering the rare combination of sculptural presence and everyday functionality.

Suggested Placement

An arresting accent in a contemporary living room, library, or thoughtfully layered bedroom. Particularly compelling alongside modern art, understated upholstery, and architectural interiors where the contrast of centuries and materials can be fully appreciated.
